2,000 tons weight, 60 meters long and a diameter of 6 meters: these facts underlines the challenge that Italian company Walter Tosto must handle at the seafront workshop Ortona. A task made for their self-propelled modular transporters SPMT by Cometto.
Walter Tosto boarders two of these giants one after the other. They are the largest reactors for refineries ever built in the world related to the technology of one of the major international process licensors. The fabrication of this equipment has defined a new technological limit for the pressure equipment sector.
From the port on the ship
A total of 80 axle lines of Cometto SPMT are assembled to pick up the 2,000 tons freight. 32 yellow painted ones directly from Walter Tosto, the other 48 ones comes from a partner. The electronically steered modules drive carefully with the sensitive cargo from the port area onto the waiting barge. From there, loading cranes pick up the reactors on the ship “Jumbo Kinetic” for onward transportation. CEO Luca Tosto is happy after the successful moves: “We thank all those who worked with high commitment to this project for reaching this very important milestone”
With a consolidated experience in the design and fabrication of items for the process industry, in particular Chemical, Petrochemicals, Oil & Gas and Energy, today Walter Tosto is recognized worldwide as a leading manufacturer of high pressure equipment and vessels.
The company owns six workshops in Chieti (Italy), a seafront workshop in Ortona (Italy), a subsidiary facility based in Bucharest, and an additional plant in Romania with access to the Danube river.
